This guide outlines the extra steps you need to take in order to ship internationally.
Incoterms
Incoterms
When shipping internationally with some carriers you will have the option to set different import/export settings for that shipment. These are called Incoterms.
Below explains what each of the options are:
DAP - Delivered at Place
DAP - Delivered at Place
This essentially means that the customer pays the duty tax, from DHL's website:
"The seller bears the responsibility and risks to deliver the goods to a named place. The goods are deemed to be delivered when they are placed at the disposal of the buyer on the arriving means of transport ready for unloading at the named place of destination. Parties are advised to specify as clearly as possible the point within the agreed place of destination, because risks transfer at this point from seller to buyer. The seller is required to clear the goods for export and the importer is responsible for effecting customs clearance, and paying any customs duties."
Delivered Duty Paid
Delivered Duty Paid
This essentially means that the shipper pays the duty tax, from DHL's website:
"The seller is responsible for delivering the goods to the named place in the country of importation, including all costs and risks in bringing the goods to import destination. This includes duties, taxes and customs formalities."
Our default setting will be DDP unless you have chosen otherwise.
Free Carrier / Free On Board
Costs, risks and responsibilities are split fairly equally between the buyer and the seller of goods.
"The goods are placed on board the vessel by the seller at the port of shipment specified in the sales contract. The risk of loss or damage is transferred to the buyer when the goods pass the ship's rail."
IMPORTANT: All Amazon orders must be delivered DDP. All orders in Veeqo will have DDP selected by default; for non-Amazon orders this can be changed at the time of shipping.
Item Value and Description
Item Value and Description
The value and description of your items must be added to your products for customs. The value of your items must be the actual price paid for the product. This will be added to the customs form from the order in Veeqo. You may be asked to provide proof of transaction. To add your items description, see this guide.
IOSS number
IOSS number
When shipping to EU countries you will need to add an IOSS number on shipment. For more information, see this guide.
Electronic Pre-Advice Data
Electronic Pre-Advice Data
Electronic pre-advice is information you provide electronically about the sender, the receiver and the goods you are sending abroad.
It includes information required for overseas customs and help overseas postal services to contact the customer in case of problems with their parcel.
Certain information as of the 1st January 2021 is mandatory for all international shipments.
We currently provide the majority of the relevant information to your carriers however HS Tariff Codes will need to be added to your products in order to pass checks and avoid delays
For more information on HS Tariff Codes, please see this government link: https://www.gov.uk/trade-tariff
