Password and Security Best Practices

As scammers and hackers get more advanced, it's more important than ever to make sure you stay one step ahead and protect your account. Here are our best tips and tricks to keep your business safe and give you peace of mind.

  1. Use strong, unique passwords

Our password requirements help get you started, but it's vital not to share passwords between accounts and services.

  2. Set up two-step verification (or 2FA)

Think of 2FA as your account's security alarm - passwords alone are like locking your front door but leaving the window open. With 2FA, even if someone gets your password, they still need that second verification step.

  3. Update passwords regularly

We know it's a hassle, but one of the best ways to protect your account is through regular password updates for all users. Veeqo recommends updating all passwords every 6 months. Updating passwords is easy and can be done by either the account owner or account admins.

  4. Remove old user accounts

When someone leaves your company, or no longer needs access to Veeqo, delete their user account.

Strong, Unique Passwords

Reusing passwords across accounts and services creates a massive security risk for your account. By reusing passwords, if one account gets breached, hackers can use those credentials to unlock all your other accounts through automated attacks. Worried about forgetting your password? Try out a password manager - get started with this helpful online guide.

Two Step Verification

Add another layer of security to your account log-in by enabling Two-Step Verification (also known as Two-Factor Authentication). A second form of authentication can help prevent unauthorized account access if a system password has been compromised. Two-Step Verification is a requirement for account owners and any admins who wish to be able to update other users' details.

NOTE: This option is specific to users who sign in with email. If you are using Amazon’s Single Sign on option you can enable Two-Step Verification directly in the Amazon account you used to sign up

To enable two-step verification:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Users

  3. Click the edit button (pen icon) next to the user you want to edit.

  4. Scroll to Two-Step Verification and click ENABLE TWO- STEP VERIFICATION. A QR code will appear - use this to add your Veeqo account to an authenticator app

  5. Log in to your chosen authenticator app

  6. Scan the QR code under Two-Step Verification in Veeqo

  7. Enter any extra details the app asks for and save

  8. The app will automatically keep your single use code up to date so it will always be ready when you need it

Once enabled, each login will now require the password and a single-use authentication code. Your single-use authentication code will automatically be sent to the email address used to sign in to the account, however, it is recommended to use an authenticator app to receive your single-use authentication code.

New to authenticator apps?

No problem! Authenticator apps are super easy to install and use. Simply search for recommended authenticator apps in your region online and install it. Once you connect your Veeqo account to the authenticator, each time you login you'll get a code sent to the app which you will need to enter into Veeqo.

This means that should your email account or passwords get leaked, anyone trying to access your account will be blocked, as they also need access to the device you have the authenticator installed on.

Updating Passwords Regularly

Regularly updating passwords limits the window of opportunity for attackers to exploit compromised credentials. If your password is exposed in a data breach, which often goes undetected for months, changing it regularly ensures that stolen credentials become useless before they can be exploited. Fresh passwords also protect against unauthorized access from old devices, former employees, or anyone who may have previously gained access to your accounts.

Account owners/admins can update passwords, or users can update their passwords individually using the steps in this guide.

Remove Old User Accounts

Keep your user base up-to-date and remove any inactive or previous employee accounts. Leaving old user accounts creates a vulnerability that may be exploited by scammers, as you are less likely to notice if someone accesses or makes changes under this account.
